Leadership Team

Our faculty and administrative staff at JBS represent an international community of students, parents, teachers, counselors, PE teachers, librarians, language specialists and administrators. Our teaching team is truly international, representing over 18 countries. All our teachers are certified and highly qualified, with the majority holding advanced degrees (including masters’ degrees and twelve doctorates).

Our staff also takes part in regular professional development programs, to ensure they are at the forefront of the latest educational methodology.

Our team is supported by exemplary and modern facilities in a campus set in the heart of Jumeira 1, just a few minutes away from the white beaches of Dubai.

Our faculty does not only inspire young minds but is also actively involved in community projects and non-profit work outside of the school, to give back and share our mission of lifelong passion about learning.
Richard DrewPrincipal
Richard is an experienced school leader, having worked in both state and private schools in the UK, Australia, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Bedfordshire in 1989 and started his teaching career in Cambridgeshire, England. Richard obtained his Master’s degree in Sports Science in 1997 from Loughborough University, UK, and went on to complete his National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) in 2004. Richard’s involvement in high level team sport has helped him develop a distributed leadership style that supports collaboration, growth and improvement.
Martyn ShadboltHead of Primary
Martyn holds an Honours Degree in Primary Education from Exeter University. He worked in a language school in Singapore before moving to an International Primary School (ISS) where he was introduced to the Primary Years Programme (PYP). He was appointed as Deputy Head and PYP Coordinator before moving to China for four years and introducing the PYP to a school as both PYP Coordinator and Elementary Principal. For the past six years he worked as Head of Primary in Doha at ISLQatar, where he led teams through successful verification and accreditation processes. He joined JBS as Head of Primary in September 2015.
Tima Al-ZaimPYP Coordinator
Tima Al-Zaim has 14 years of experience working with the IBPYP. She is an active member of the International Baccalaureate Educators Network as a consultant, workshop leader, site visitor, team leader and reader. She is a very well-known IB trainer in the IBAEM region. Before joining JBS, She worked as an IBPYP Coordinator and educational advisor in world IB schools in Africa and the Gulf region and was involved in the IB KFF Project (IB/KSA) for the introductory of professional development: Learning, leading and teaching for the 21st century. Tima is working towards earning her Master’s Degree in Educational leadership and Management from Middlesex University.
Mandy PalmerDirector of Extended Learning
Mandy Palmer joined JBS in September as the Director of Extended Learning. She moved to Dubai two years ago with her husband and they thoroughly enjoy their new life here. She qualified as a Primary School teacher in 1995. She taught English in Greece to Greek children aged 7-18 years old for one year and then taught in various schools in Gloucestershire UK as a Primary teacher, with a promotion to Assistant Head Teacher in 2004. She became the Head Teacher of a Primary School in Cheltenham UK in 2006 and left in 2014 to move to Dubai with her husband. She has been working as a Vice Principal with responsibility for the Primary phase here in Dubai for the last two years.
Erika ElkadyHead of Secondary
Erika holds a Master’s Degree in History and American Studies. She worked at the International Secondary School of Eindhoven (ISSE) in her native Netherlands from 1996 to 2007, where she taught MYP and DP History. In 2004, she became the ISSE’s acting MYP Coordinator until she was appointed MYP Coordinator at Taaleem’s Uptown School in Dubai in April of 2007. In August 2008, Erika also became the Deputy Head of Uptown High School (UHS). She joined JBS in September 2011 as the Head of Secondary School. Under her leadership, the school became an authorized MYP, DP and IBCP school. Erika has been an MYP consultant for the IB since 2004.
Ryan EwaskiwDeputy Head of Primary
Ryan earned his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Western Ontario in his home country of Canada. He began his primary teaching career in London and from 1998 to 2008, he held positions as a Grade 6, 7 and 8 core teacher and Instrumental Music Specialist. In 2008, he became a Learning Technologies Coordinator for the Thames Valley District School Board in Ontario, Canada, specializing in implementing handheld technology, 'BYOB' (Bring Your Own Device Programmes), Inquiry investigations using SOLE centres (Self Organized Learning Environments’). Ryan joined the JBS leadership team as Deputy Head of Primary for the 2015/16 school year.
Declan has been an experienced IBDP Physics teacher for the past 14 years. He has a wealth of experience in teaching a variety of curricula which included the Indian State Board, ICSE, GCSE, A Levels, MYP and IBDP. In addition to Physics he has also had many years of experience in teaching Mathematics and a short stint with Chemistry. Furthermore, Declan has been a TOK teacher and a CAS Coordinator. He has helped set up and run the Duke of Edinburgh Award System, The House System and Debate Clubs in some of the schools where he worked. Besides teaching, Declan is also a Workshop leader with the IB for Physics, TOK and CAS. He has also been an integral part of the DP team in his last job as Head of year 12 and 13.
Imad A. NasrDirector of Arabic
Imad graduated with high distinction from the Lebanese University, Faculty of Literature and Human Sciences ranking first in Lebanon (2004) and received a prize of gratitude from the dean of the faculty. A year later he earned his Teaching Diploma, then his PGDE at the same university. His researches of linguistics focus on Arabic dialects and the function of language. Imad is currently studying the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL). During his 3 years as Director of Arabic at Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Imad worked professionally with the team to implement the IB philosophy efficiently in all programs. The Arabic department became a cohesive unit and made great progress in implementing modern best practices and teaching strategies, integrating technology, differentiation and self-assessment strategies. This has been noticed and acknowledged by the Dubai School Inspection Bureau.
Clare KellyDeputy Head of Secondary
Clare took her first degree at the University of Surrey, where she studied Environmental Studies and Geography. A Civil Service career at the Department of Environment followed, before she joined the private sector that culminated in a spell with the Dow Jones Corporation. Having taken her PGCE at Oxford, she moved into education, teaching Geography, with successive appointments as Director of Studies and Assistant Head before leaving the UK to become Assistant Head (Curriculum) at Repton, Dubai, where she also taught ICT. Since joining the teaching profession, she continued to study part time at Oxford where she took both a PGDE and MSc. in Professional Development in Education.
Catherine Joan NobleBursar
Catherine has worked in education for 15 years. She holds an honours degree in Business and Management from Huddersfield University graduating in 2001 and a Post Graduate Certificate in Coaching for Business Excellence from Sunderland University. Catherine worked at an international British school in Bucharest from 2012 as School Business Manager and led her team through successful ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) inspections. Before leaving the UK, Catherine worked for six years as Senior Officer at Durham Music Service that provided quality music tuition in all schools within the local area. Catherine joined the JBS leadership team in August 2016 as Bursar.
William CullenDP Coordinator
I am a UK trained teacher and have been in the profession now for 19 years. My wife is also a teacher and together, with our 3 children, we left the UK in 2004 in order to teach internationally. In that time, I have worked in schools in the Qatar, Thailand, New Zealand and the UAE. My degree is from the University of Winchester in the UK, where I studied Geography and Archaeology and, overall, I see myself as an historical geographer with a keen interest in the way human beings interact with the varied landscapes of the world. My teaching career has also developed in that time and I have moved from being primarily a classroom teacher, to my current role of IBDP coordinator.
